Bauhaus and Beyond

animation – bauhaus and beyond

Mirza Maulana, Franziska Wagner, Anton Wegmann

Our Inspiration for the animation comes from a famous Bauhaus poster. It inspired us with its lines, forms, and typography.

idea

The idea behind our animation is the history and the design products of the Bauhaus and the Ulm School of Design. We focused on the history of both schools

Concept

The Bauhaus part starts with the quotation by Wassily Kandinsky: “Everything starts with a dot." We illustrated the part on the Bauhaus with colors because the Bauhaus was a very creative and artistic school. We want to emphasize that the Nazi regime was a turning point for the Bauhaus. The emigration of famous Bauhaus artists made it possible to spread the ideals of the Bauhaus beyond Germany and Europe. We connected the two parts with a dashed line because it wasn´t easy for the Bauhaus artists to emigrate and start something new. The part about the Ulm School of Design is kept in grey colors, which illustrates the technical and productive side of the school. The Ulm School of Design section ends with the quotation by Walter Gropius: “Let us create the new building of the future together. It will combine architecture, sculpture and painting in a single form."

Message

The goal of the animation is to provide the viewer with the people with information about the Bauhaus and the HFG and how they are connected. To tell the story and show the history was really important for us.
